My roommates look really good naked. At least one of them does. I’m sure the other one does too, but I haven’t seen him without his pants on. Living with two guys wasn’t something I’d ever considered, but the opportunity fell in my lap, and I’d have been crazy to turn it down.
College went by in a great big blur leaving me with less of a direction than I had going in. Add in a family that wanted nothing to do with me, and my post-college plans were less than clear. What’s a girl to do when she has nowhere else to turn? She moves to the Outer Banks and learns to bartend. After all, it was my horrible bartending skills that led me to my roommate’s bed and into his heart.
On the Rocks is the second book in the Mixology series, and earned around the same number of stars as its predecessor. It’s probably best to read the first book, Shaken Not Stirred, before even thinking about this one. That being said, if you haven’t read the first book, you shouldn’t be reading this. Stop now! You’ve been warned. :)
In Shaken Not Stirred we met Maddy and Colin. They had a rather interesting relationship, and to be honest, I wasn’t overly fond of Colin until the very end when he fiiiiinally won me over. Kind of. Along the way we also met Colin’s sister, Carly and Maddy’s roommates, Brody and Macon. They’re all complex characters with semi-traumatic pasts. On the Rocks is the story of Carly and Macon – with a lot of Maddy and Colin thrown into the mix. <~~ Ha! See what I did there?!
Carly is running away. Well, she’s running away from her parents and her sister, Kim, while running to Colin, her protective big brother. We already know that Carly is having problems with her sister. She’s been accused of trying to seduce her brother-in-law, even though SHE was the one who told Kim that her dirt-bag of a husband was the one trying to seduce HER. So stupid. Anyway, Colin is the only family member who believes her. After graduating college she decides to go to the Outer Banks to stay with him for the summer.
When Carly arrives, Colin is less than thrilled. He’s been trying to get Maddy to move in with him and having his baby sister around isn’t exactly going to sweeten the pot. Carly is determined to stay put and when Macon offers her Maddy’s room at his place with Brody, she can’t pass it up.
Carly is sexually attracted to Macon. Macon is sexually attracted to Carly. Both are determined to keep their distance.
Macon lost his “wing girl” when Maddy started dating Colin. Now he’s hoping that Carly can take her place. Only, Macon doesn’t really want a wing girl; he wants Carly. This is definitely one of those books where people just need to get their heads out of their butts and realize what’s right in front of them. Enough of this “trying to resist” one another nonsense. Just give in already! They’re too busy looking backwards. *Sigh* Turn the hell around! When they finally give in to one another it’s a hot and steamy read. There isn’t a ton of drama or angst, which I found a little disappointing. It’s a pretty basic story.
While I enjoyed both Shaken Not Stirred and On the Rocks, I am more interested in Brody’s story. He’s hiding something big… Hurry. Up. Alyssa!
