Emmie Hayes loved the beautiful Ashton Stirling deeply; nobody could deny that. She had given him her youth, and all he gave in return was misery and pain. She was ready for a new beginning, but Ashton wasn’t about to let her go so easily, even if it meant destroying both their lives in the process.
Three years later Emmie convinces herself she is ready to leave all of that heartbreak in the past and find a little piece of normal for herself. She heads to New York City to pick up where she left off, determined to finish art school. Emmie is determined to focus on school and not let anything distract her, but life has a way of throwing curveballs.
Paige, Emmie’s new roommate, brings Colin Bennett into her life. His smoldering eyes and lean muscular body are difficult for any girl to ignore. Only thing is, Emmie isn’t any girl. Her past makes her resistant to his charms. Colin isn’t one to give up easily, and just when he thinks he may have found a way to her stubborn heart, her tragic history may have found a way to tear them apart
Stubborn Love was one of those books that once I started, I couldn’t put it down. The prologue sucked me in and from then on, I had to know how everything worked out. I thoroughly enjoyed this 4 star book. It had just the right amount of turmoil. Enough to keep the story flowing but not so much that my heart was stopping.
Emmie Hayes found love at a young age. But it turned out to be a love she hadn’t bargained for. She finally gets the power to leave. But her husband, Ashton, is not about to let her go so easily. Three years later and Emmie is still scarred from everything that happened with Ashton. But, she is determined to move on with her life and accomplish the things that she has always wanted to do. And she is not about to let a man get in her way.
Upon arriving in New York, she meets Paige who becomes her roommate. I instantly fell in love with Paige. She is one those side characters that brings so much to the story: humor, enlightenment, and a solid friendship. It is through Paige that Emmie meets Colin. At first, Emmie is repulsed by Colin. But the aggravated man that she met on the first day is not who continues to show up. No, this guy is sweet, giving, and hardworking. But, even though Colin grows on her, she refuses to open up. Love scares Emmie and she is not about to make the same mistake she made several years ago.
Colin had me swooning immediately. I felt Colin’s love for Emmie through his actions. He was so good to her and sensing the walls that she has up, wanted nothing more than to protect her. Emmie didn’t make this easy for Colin. She was so afraid to open up that she kept pushing him away. I so many times wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into her. But, at the same time, I completely understood her hesitation.
As Emmie’s past life collides with her new life, things get very complicated for her and very interesting for the reader. Emmie has been through so much heartache. I was rooting for her to make it out with a happily ever after.
I really enjoyed Stubborn Love. To me, it was a great somewhat quick read with just the right amount of drama. Ms. Owens did a fabulous job at portraying the emotions of each character, making the story completely believable. I would definitely recommend it!
