Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.
For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.
Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

This book sort of took me by surprise. By the synopsis, I knew I would enjoy it. What I didn’t anticipate, though, was being so moved by it, and then of course, dying for the next book – which is set to release at the end of February.
I loved Callie and Kayden. Both. Together and separately. The way in which Jessica developed her characters was beautiful. It was a slow unveiling of their individual dramas, but it wasn’t slow in the sense that as a reader it took awhile to connect. I was instantly hooked. Literally. From Callie and Kayden’s first encounter, I wanted to know about both of them. Every single time they met after that, I was dying to feel their sparks.
They have their fair share of obstacles to deal with on their own, and then they also have obstacles to overcome together. All of this creates this amazing story that literally grabs ahold of you and doesn’t let go.
It takes both Callie and Kayden some time to open up to each other, but there’s something each of them sees in each other that invites the truth to slowly work its way out. There’s also so much more developing between them. And I was in deep. Hook, line and sinker. I can’t say enough about this story in terms of recommending it – for the heartbreaking and beautiful story, the awesome writing, the captivating characters – but at the same time, I can’t say too much. It’s, again, like most stories I’ve read lately, it needs to be felt and experienced as you turn the page. My words will not do it the justice it deserves.
Up until the last sentence I was hooked. The problem was – dun, dun, dun…I am waiting with bated breath to know what happens next. February cannot come soon enough for me. I will immediately be downloading The Redemption of Callie and Kayden to see where their story goes next – because I KNOW it can’t be over. I give this book 4.5 stars, though, and recommend to anyone looking for a moving, heartbreaking, beautiful story about finding someone amongst the worst conditions and realizing you’re not alone after all. While I feel raw and broken, I am also hopeful after reading this, and excited to see what’s next for them. And also, my apologies for my crap reviews these days. These authors are blowing my mind with their trickery. :)
