Basically the second I finished The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden I decided I needed more Jessica Sorensen. Because I was so devastated with not being able to know what happens next with Callie and Kayden, I felt that throwing myself into Ella and Micha’s story would help me. And it did.
The Secret of Ella and Micha is another beautiful story about love, loss and second chances. The writing is great, and the story is so moving, it was super easy to get in deep right from the beginning. The story started in a sort of flashback, and it was so powerful and immediately left me wondering what happened between Ella and Micha. Both characters were broken, badly. And although they’ve known each other practically their entire lives, there was still so much between them keeping them apart.
After one nearly deadly night together 8 months ago, Ella flees. Micha has NO idea where she goes, if she’s ok, or if she’s ever coming back. Ella starts over in Las Vegas. She has enrolled in college, and traded in her old life for a new one – a clean break where no one knows who she is, where she’s from, or the life she’s lived. School’s out for the summer, though, and so she’s forced to return home. And return to Micha.
When she returns, Micha is completely determined on figuring out first, where “his” Ella went, and also keep her. This is easier said than done, and they face plenty of roadblocks, but I loved reading the past parts of their relationship that were described, but also see it all grow and flourish too. There was so much unsaid between them before she left, and so many secrets still between them when she returned. It was awesome to see all that laid out on the table.
The supporting characters in this story were amazing. I can’t wait to read Lila and Ethan’s story sometime next year. Grady, I loved him, too. He was so wise, and supportive of Ella and Micha. I loved the relationship that both of them had with him, and what he did to bring them together, without being pushy.
On the whole, this was a very moving story. The characters were so well developed, and I loved the alternating POVs. I’ve become such a fan of this style of writing. It does wonders for the storyline, when done so well. Nothing felt forced here, and the characters felt real and relatable and you couldn’t help but root for them. Individually and as a couple. This is a 4.5 star read for me, and the sequel cannot come fast enough. I’m ready to know what happens next for them and to them. There were plenty of loose ends left, but it was definitely tied up neatly and left just enough to wonder where it’s all going.
